Thom Goodwin's profile

: Marketing Suite : Foster + Partners Charette.

This project took a week and I worked in partnership with a representative of             Foster + Partners to research the sustainability of contemporary prefabrication and       off-site construction methods.
The aim of the project was design a Marketing Suite for my final undergraduate project, which took on board the findings of the research that I had done. The suite had to be transportable, make us of prefabrication and sustainable materials, as well as being able to be constructed within two days.
The principle geometry of the suite reflects the dense terraced houses that surround the site. The circular orientation is a reflection of the strong community which already exists within the context, and demonstrates the community focus of my final building proposal. The aesthetic takes ques from Nordic and Scandinavian architecture, as Lincoln UK has a great deal of historical connection with that area of the word. The materials are locally sourced and sustainability supplied, consisting mostly of timber structure and straw insulation which is sourced from the local Lincolnshire area.

The use of the suite is to offer a number of modules which can be used as rehearsal and/or art studios in which local performers and artists can come and create. The ethos is similar to that of a HACKspace, with the development of the suite through time being due to the involvement and interaction with the community.
